Realistic and detailed crystals were one of the first things I wanted to make when I started learning lighting and shading, but at that point I didn't have the know-how or tools to do it the way I wanted. Recently CGCookie added a tutorial series on gemstones, so instead of following that, I decided to give it a shot with my own techniques.
